Currently, most efforts for the culturing of spirulina is in so-called raceway ponds, tubular reactors or flat plate reactors. However, for cultivation in the northern hemisphere or in an urban environment we believe cost efficient, LED-based technology is vital. For this reason, we are currently optimizing our innovative photobioreactor for the mass-production of spirulina in naturally unsuitable climates.
A truly sustainable food source
The value chains of the current food industry are complex, long and inherently inefficient. All around the equator, forests are being chopped down to produce soy that is used to feed cattle on the other side of our planet. This makes modern agriculture amongst the highest greenhouse gas emitter in the world and responsible for 75% of worldwide deforestation. Our fresh spirulina paste production process can drastically shorten these chains by producing food much more efficiently and within city centers, close to the consumer. We turn these greenhouse gasses into oxygen and produce healthy, sustainable food.

LED technology
Our innovative photobioreactors are capable of efficiently producing very high amounts of spirulina per hectare. By using LED powered reactors we can scale vertically instead of horizontally, reducing the land-use of algae cultivation by a factor of 50! Our highly efficient LEDs are water cooled to make them even more efficiƫnt and all the waste heat that is produced is being used to warm up our building.
